History of merida


          In 1958 out of Colombia a grupo de 56 spaniish expedition commanded by Captain Juan Rodriguez Juare, in order to conquer the Andes. After defaating the resistence Cúcutas, Capachos, Táchiras, Táribas, Gritas, Bailadores, Mocotíes end Estanques; came to the site losne denomiraron "relection", known today as San Juan de Lagunillas.
In the celebration of all Saints, November 01 in 1955 the captain to take this opportunity to officialy take possession on behalf of the king of spain, changing his name to the city of Mèrida.
